The Everything Shower

My favourite activity of the week! Every Sunday I have the longest everything shower known to man. The type of shower that makes you physically have to lie down afterwards. For me, an everything shower just feels so much better on a Sunday, washing off the past week and resetting for the one ahead. I am just so obsessed with them that all I do is watch TikTok videos about what products people recommend and what their routines look like compared to mine. So, if you're like me, you'll love this blog post! Believe it or not, the everything shower starts outside of the shower first. Normally, when it rolls round to Sunday, my hair has seen better days, so I'll put a hair mask in my ends and some glycolic acid in my scalp and let that sit in my hair for a few hours. The Garnier hair food masks are my favourite as they smell incredible and make your hair feel so soft too. The glycolic acid then helps to exfoliate my scalp and helps calm the dermatitis I always get, especially dur...

Gym Talk- Personal Training, is it for you?

I have been going to the gym and have had a personal trainer for the last year. After talking to a few of my friends about what having a PT is like, I realised other people may have the same questions that they had.

After many failed attempts at starting the gym, I decided to look into personal training. I had always thought that it wouldn't be for me, and that PT's are for people doing photo shoots or people who are wanting to have-
huge transformations. I found that when I was in the gym, I was anxious thinking people were looking at me, worried I was doing everything wrong and I ended up not enjoying it for these reasons. Come January, I really wanted to get into the gym but because of all these worries I felt like I needed just that extra bit of help and support, so,I decided to message Rachel/ @_rc.fitness_ on Instagram to get a better idea of what she offered. We decided four days a week in the gym suited me best, and the for the first few weeks I would go to the gym everyday with Rachel. This was to give me a better idea of what I was doing, ensuring my form was accurate and that I was comfortable with all the different exercises and warm ups that was in my plan.

So lets talk about:

FOOD:

While Rachel does give me a meal plan, I take inspiration from it rather than be really strict on myself. When making it, she made sure to factor in foods that I enjoyed eating. She made me 2 different plans; a plan for days I'm training and a plan for rest days. They include different meal options for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and all the nutritional information. Meal plans are completely personal and you can take things out or add things in to suit you best. I just find that they don't suit me and that's okay too.

TRAINING PLAN:

Rachel will write up a training plan for me and that's what I follow during the week. The training plans are accessed through Google Forms and they're really simple to follow. My week is split into four days; back day, glutes day, arm day and leg day. This gives me the freedom to train whatever I'm feeling in the mood for that day. Along with the exercises, she gives me the number of reps and sets, and recommended stretches for each day. Rachel is really easy to work with, if you don't like a certain exercise she has no problem switching up your plan.

When I've finished training that day, I'll send Rachel what I did with all the sets and reps included. Rachel is really supportive and helpful, so we'll normally just have a chat about how I got on. This part of having a PT might be one of my favourites. It makes the world of difference for your confidence when you can see your progress and your PT can too. The 24/7 support is amazing, especially when you just need some extra reassurance and encouragement. What I've found with Rachel is that she is rooting for me all the way. I could go to her about anything big or small and she would be really supportive of me.

CHECK IN:

Every Saturday, I will complete my check in form and photos for Rachel to look over. All my check ins and photos are kept in the one place so it's easy for me to see my progress week by week. I take three photos of myself; one face on, one to the side profile, and one of my back profile. Progress photos are the perfect means to track those small changes you make every week. You can see your body really tighten up and change. Alongside this, is the check in form which is just discussing how your week went. In this, Rachel gets you to take measurements of yourself, including your chest, 2 inches above your belly button, 2 inches below and then at your belly button. Then the rest of it is rating your food intake, training sessions, how you're feeling, your period cycle etc.

Rachel will give it a read and then normally will send me a message about my photos and anything from my check in. Depending how my week went this can either look like words of encouragement for the week ahead, talking about any achievements from the past week or talking about the difference in my check in photos.

WOULD I RECOMMEND?:

I was thinking about this when I went to the gym on a Tuesday at half 6 in the evening. I couldn't have even imagined doing that about a year ago. Pure-gym too, of all places. Before, I could barely step into the weight section without having a crazy amount of anxiety, but now I only have a bit of anxiety. So, if that isn't progress then I don't know what is. I have far more confidence with what I'm doing, and I know if there's anything I'm struggling with Rachel will give me a hand straight away. I understand that some people may not have had an experience like this, but I would say that Rachel's just like a friend now and we're always rooting for each other. I have definitely achieved what I set out to with having a PT. Writing this, I'm scared of the judgement of not looking like I go to the gym. I haven't made this crazy transformation like you see from other people, but it's important to remind yourself that you're on your own journey.

I hope you all have thoroughly enjoyed. Any questions at all, don't be scared to fire them my way wether that's through Instagram/LinkedIn/Comments.

Much Love x
