Since I was no age, I have always been a nail biter, biting the skin around my nails too. My nails were always extremely short, right down to the nail bed, no cuticles and just looked awful to be honest. I used to always say if I was ever stuck on a desert island, one of the things I would have to bring with me would be a pair of nail scissors. Even thinking about that now makes me laugh. I hardly ever painted my nails or took any of care of them. On the other hand, my Mammy always had the most perfect nails. She was always shaping and filling them, trying her best to influence me to do the same, but I was never interested.
It wasn't until I was 15 that I got my nails done for the first time. They were very short, misshapen, lilac nails with stars all over them- but I was obsessed. After that set of nails, I needed to have my nails done all the time. I invested in some nail polish, but it was just never the same. With gel polish, your nails feel just so much more stronger, especially when your nails were as brittle as mine.
My first set of gel nails (pictured above) are what kickstarted the obsession with needing my nails done. From the photo, it's so obvious just how bad the condition of my nails were. The red cuticles and different shaped nails, it's crazy the difference BIAB can make to your nails. I promise, it will take your nails from being brittle and weak, to being stronger and healthier than you could ever imagine. From May 2021, I've been regularly getting my nails done every month and I have encouraged everyone I know to do the same (shoutout to Jenny, my nail tech). With BIAB, I've been able to grow out my nails super long or then have them really short, and is there anything better than scoping Pinterest to find nail inspo.
Personally, I think it's so important to do at least one nice thing for yourself every month, and what's better than getting your nails done. It is so therapeutic to just sitting chatting while someone is sitting doing your nails. Recently, I am LOVING shorter nails and plain colours, taking inspiration from Hailey Bieber or Sophie Murray. So, if you feel like your nails are a lost cause, go book yourself an appointment to get your nails done because it will change your life. I've also included a few of my favourite nail sets to give you some inspiration.
Love, Bébhinn x
